Company history of Kälte AG
1841 The master tinsmith Jakob Daniel Rohrer founded his own tinsmith business in Aeschenvorstadt after being admitted to the Safran Guild.
1845 He died of a chest illness. His wife Valeria continued the business with little success.
1846 The guild assigned her a skilled tinsmith journeyman, Joseph Georg Eisinger. His masterpiece, the life-sized angel figure, still adorns the Engel Inn in Liestal.
1847 Joseph Georg Eisinger married his employer. He worked as a craftsman, and his wife managed the shop. The marriage produced three sons and a daughter. Two of them, Fritz and Franz, trained as tinsmiths in the family business. Franz, the youngest son, was very business-minded and, together with his father, set up an additional locksmith workshop and acquired machinery powered by a 2-horsepower Deutz engine. The father believed the engine—a self-operating machine—was possessed by the devil and refused to enter the workshop thereafter. In addition to mass-producing household items from tin, making stoves, copperware, and distillation equipment, Franz Eisinger also began working in construction tinwork. Franz Eisinger married Katharina Schmidt. This marriage produced three sons: Franz, August, and Hans. The first two learned the tinsmith trade in their father’s business.
1910 A new branch was added to the business, the manufacturing of refrigerators. In 1911, Franz Eisinger passed away. His wife took over the company with their sons Hans and August under the name "Franz Eisinger Sons & CO." This led to the creation of the brand name FRESCO, under which they marketed their refrigerators.
1917 The mother passed away, and in 1924, August Eisinger died. Hans Eisinger was forced to manage the increasingly complex business alone. In addition to mass-producing household and commercial refrigerators, cooling cabinets, and installing cooling drawers in buffet systems on steel tracks, in
1935 they began producing sinks made from stainless chrome steel. Between the two world wars, Hans Eisinger employed up to 140 workers. After World War II, the company started designing and implementing cooling and freezing systems.
1957 The company was transformed into Hans Eisinger AG. A year later, the company owner passed away. His wife continued the business with the help of long-time employee Ernst Schwob.
1967 The carpentry and refrigeration departments were separated. The former department head, E. Uehlinger, took over the carpentry, and the former sales representative Hans Kreienbühl registered the refrigeration department under the name Kälte AG Basel in the commercial register.
1998 Hans Kreienbühl became seriously ill and could no longer run the company. The company was taken over in equal shares by Baumgartner Uster and Jakob Nussbaum.
2002 The Baumgartner company transferred its share to Jakob Nussbaum, who has since been the sole owner and managing director. Kälte AG Basel is a member of the Swiss refrigeration ring and is one of the market leaders in the Northwestern Switzerland region, with many satisfied customers.
2011 The company Schindler AG took over Kälte AG, thus resolving the succession plan.
2013 The company moved to Münchenstein to join Schindler AG. Since
2018 Kälte AG has focused on the refrigeration sector, while Schindler AG has concentrated on the business property.
